Why is there something rather than nothing? Why do we exist as part of this something? We know a lot about the "how" of our existence, but we don't know much about the "why." Yet it is the most important question of all.
I would argue that there are two polar opposites; an infinite negative (nothingness) and an infinite positive (the initial singularity). Both sides are absolute and so are stable, but with an unstable medium which we call the universe (this unstableness being energy).
This medium is always drawn (or pulling) in both directions by pushing up out of the negative nothingness side (Big Bang/quantum fluctuations) and pulling back toward the infinite positive side (Black Holes/gravity). The balance between the two sides is the astonishing fine-tuning within the universe and the forced forces of nature.
Ascending up out of nothing is dead matter, and descending down from "The Infinite" is universal awareness. Of course, physics breaks down at both extremes because infinities cannot be measured.
